The Kovalchick Family Intensive Care Unit

Today marked the opening of Indiana Regional Medical Center’s Kovalchick Family Intensive Care Unit.

As we completed Phase I of the two-phase construction, three patients transferred into this state-of-the-art facility which includes eight private rooms. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom, television, an outside window, blinds for privacy, and close observation of patients from the independent nursing stations located outside of the rooms. The unit also has a large consultation area for coordination of care with case managers, specialists, and staff. There is an intricate nurse call system which is a major benefit to staff and patients.

In addition to today’s move, Dr. Imran Bajwa, the Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit and an IRMC pulmonologist, performed the first bronchoscopy this morning in the unit.

Phase II of the plan will begin today which will include an additional four beds plus a dialysis room, a new family waiting area, and conference and consultation rooms. The Kovalchick Family Intensive Care Unit is part of the Centennial Building Project (CBP). The first part of this incredible project kicked off in September of 2015 with the new six room, state-of-the-art First Commonwealth Surgical Suite, the Rose Bud Mining Post Anesthesia Care Unit and a new central processing department. Construction continues in the new S&T Bank Ambulatory Care Unit and the Reschini Endoscopy Suite. In September of 2016, Indiana Regional Medical Center will be adding to our Cardiology service line by including Percutaneous Coronary Intervention services which will be performed using new cardiac catheterization technology and equipment.
