IRMC Welcomes New Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brian Hawthorne
Dr. Brian Hawthorne

Indiana Regional Medical Center would like to welcome Dr. Brian Hawthorne as our new Chief Medical Officer.  Dr. Hawthorne is a Family Medicine Physician with 16 years of executive management and leadership experience.  He most recently served as Vice President/Medical Director of Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV, and completed his Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

With the welcoming of Dr. Hawthorne, IRMC announces the retirement of Dr. Bruce Bush, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer. His retirement is effective Friday, July 28. Dr. Bush has served in this role since 2001 and has contributed to the continued advancement of our quality and patient safety programs and recruited numerous physicians to the community bringing rheumatology and endocrinology specialties to the community. Other accomplishments under his leadership include: the formation of the Institute for Healthy Living; continued enhancements of oncology services; establishment of vascular program; and implementation of hospitalist program. The accomplishment he is most proud of is the implementation of the PCI Program. Prior to being hired as a member of the IRMC senior leadership team, Dr. Bush served the community as a pulmonologist in private practice and has been a member of the medical staff for the past 29 years. During his time in private practice he was elected to serve as President of the Medical Staff in 1992, a position he held for 5 years.

Dr. Bush was born at IRMC and attended IUP where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry before going on to receive his medical degree at Hahnemann Medical College & Hospital. He served in the United States Army and was the chief of Internal Medicine and director of Respiratory Therapy Services at the Uniformed Services Military Medical Complex during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991. We are very grateful for Dr. Bush’s service to IRMC and the community, and wish him well on the occasion of his retirement.

Dr. Hawthorne will continue to ensure our patients receive the highest quality of treatment possible by hiring, evaluating, and training new physicians. In addition, he will create and enforce our clinical guidelines to make IRMC’s healthcare delivery system run as efficiently as possible.  IRMC and the community extend their welcome to Dr. Hawthorne.
